Annual Meeting Young Investigator Award

Purpose and scope

Purpose and scope: The ESPGHAN Annual Meeting Young Investigator Award (YIA) is intended to support expenses for Young Investigators (including AHP, Trainees,  Scientists, and non ESPGHAN members) who have had an abstract accepted for presentation at the ESPGHAN Annual Meeting. 

Specification: The grant will help cover the travel, Visa application and accommodation costs within host meetings countries. Costs than can also be covered by this grant include congress registration up to Early Bird Fee; registration to PIBD, Post Graduate and AHP courses. Also courses available on clinical research, Parenteral Nutrition and Artificial Intelligence taking place during ESPGHAN Annual Meeting. All listed costs will covered up to the value of the award.

Amount: up to EUR 1.000,00 

Eligibility

  • The applicant should be a young investigator / clinician / AHP with less than ten years in the sub-speciality: 

- Medically qualified applicants should be in a training position, i.e. have not qualified in PGHN, nor have achieved a staff position;
- Applicants should not be well established funded researchers
- Full ESPGHAN members are not eligible for this award

  • The applicant should have received less than 3 YIA in the past
  • The applicant should be the main presenter of the abstract selected (i.e. the person presenting the abstract at the congress) - The applicant should be supported by full member in good standing (i.e. without any outstanding dues) of the Society. In the case of AHP applicants, support letters can be submitted from AHP Members in good standing.   

Application and selection Process

Applications for the Young Investigator Award must be submitted during the abstract submission process. Please follow this link to submit an abstract and apply for the Young Investigator award.

  • Require documents:

  • Support letter from one of the following sponsors in good standing:
    - ESPGHAN Full Member
    - ESPGHAN senior Corresponding Member
    - a senior member of any FISPGHAN Society
  • Applicant current CV


Selection Criteria: Those who have received one or two awards previously or who live from regions close to the conference may receive a reduced award due to lower travel costs. In case the number of applications exceeds the number of awards available, the treasurer may at his/her discretion either select from those applications that fulfil all criteria on a first come first serve basis (but may give priority to applicants that are in particular need e.g. from low income countries), or may adjust funding to maximise attendance. 

Selection Process:

  • Complete applications will be reviewed by the ESPGHAN Office and the ESPGHAN Treasurer in a first round
  • ESPGHAN Council will then review the applications independently
  • The applicant will be notified on the outcome of their application approx. 4 days before the Early Bird Deadline of the ESPGHAN Annual Meeting.
  • Individuals who do not apply for the Young Investigator Award during the abstract submission process will not be considered for the award. We are unable to accept applications after the abstract submission period has closed and the blind review has been completed, about a week prior to the early bird registration deadline.

Reporting and disbursement of the fund

Funds will only be released after

  • Signature of YIA register list at ESPGHAN booth during the Annual Meeting meeting 
  • The financial statement incl. copies of the according receipts are sent to ESPGHAN office and approved by ESPGHAN Treasurer 

YIA recipients who are eligible to receive a contribution towards their travel expenses can download the according expense claim form after the Annual Meeting of the award year.
